A hunting riddle and algebra puzzle

I found this one in a site.when i 1st read it, i thought they were joking, but there's an actual logical way to do it!see if you can find out how:

'A hunter is hunting for bears. He spots one at the edge of a cliff. The cliff is w meters high. He is x meters away from the bear. He shoots at the bear. The bullet travels at y meters/second. After the bullet hits the bear, the bear falls off the cliff after z seconds.
What colour is the bear?
Keep in mind that the values for distance, velocity and time are extremely accurate.'

i found another one of a different kind:
'Replace the same characters by the same numerals so that the mathematical operations are correct.
SEVEN + SEVEN + SIX = TWENTY'

this means it's a 'crypted equation'

I'll post the solutions later, till then scratch your heads!
good luck!!

Hi!!

Well, as for the first puzzle, I really don't understand what is supose to do, so i skipped that one=P

As for the second and because the html color tags don't work here (I tried to write the solution I came up with in white=P), i'll just post the solution I found after a few hours...

SEVEN
SEVEN
+ SIX
---------
TWENTY

First of all, my intuition told me T has to be 1 because it's the start of TWENTY (Sx2 + something from behind in which that "behind" is a sum of two numbers <10 maybe with something more, can hardly be >20)=p

Then I thought of what could be S because I already knew (through T=1) that it had to be <20... well, S is for Six (LOL), let's give it a try! and following this intuition, E is for eight... now as the rest, after a few calculations, I came up with:

68V8N
68V8N
+ 6IX
--------
138N1Y

After this, and since I was doing well replacing letters with numbers that had that letter:
ONE
TWO
THREE
FOUR
FIVE
SIX
SEVEN
EIGHT
NINE
ZERO

I tried V... there is no number that starts with a V, but there are 2 that have a V: FIVE ans SEVEN...
but the E in TWENTY is 8, which means the transport from V+V+6 is two (and because the result of 8 + 8 + that transport (2) is <20 that's why I've chosen 3 for W)... the only way to do it is V being SEVEN. 14+6=20.

Then we have N... 7+7+6+ transport>0 can never be 0, and since 1 is chosen, we'll take N as 2, because I don't believe it can be NiNe... what we have now is:

68782
68782
+ 6IX
--------
13821Y

Can you guess it now?

X has to be 0 because with siX out, that's the way it makes sense (X means wrong everywhere, which is 0 LOL). Obviously I is 5 (following my rule, it could be nIne or fIve, but it has to be 5 because 8+8+5=21) and Y is 4 (there is no number with a Y in it, so maybe my rule doesn't apply for this one... and for T... and for X... but it works! lol), which leads to:

68782
68782
+ 650
-------
138214

Finally! lol that took me quite a lot of time=P

Take care everybody and don't watch the solution before doing it! It's not fair! LOL

oh my god!u'r really good!
congratz!
i just don't understand..here on hell do u get the time to do this kind of puzzles??iused to do them, but rite now i hv no time what-so-ever!
for the 1st puzzle,i'll give clue:
it has to do with physics!n it's very basic phyics, like wht we learn in grade 8!u just hv to apply tht physics...

Well, normally these "crypted" puzzles have this kind of tricks of replacing the letters/numbers by something related to the character (kind of cryptography...), so it's just give it a try and hope for luck=P

Obviouslly I don't have much time, I started thinking about this one in my boring calculus class=P (don't tell anybody, right caroline? LOOOL)

As for the first one, I skipped the question while reading, that's why I really haven't seen what's supose to do, but I'll think about this one l8r=p

ciao

Howdy!
Ok... Not going to give it a try, because, as you know, I'm really bad with numbers...
But, just wanted to say:
I'm curious as hell to see the answer for the first one...
About the color, well...
It's a bear in a cliff (my guess is that they're in some kind of woods), being hunted (so it can't be, in a perfect world, a species facing the danger of extinction)...
So, I'll say the bear is brown...

Unless "x" is a very small distance, in which situation the bear would be red... as everything else in the hunter's sight.

I don't know... It's some stupid theories, right?! Well, it's all I came up with at 1.20 am.

Stay cool, my critic!

Peace ;p

lion,u r actually cloe in the thought process, coz it's somethin dif..

The solution for the 1st riddle is:
find the acceleration of free fall of the bear, thus
g= 2h/t^2
(using formula s=ut + 0.5at^2)
polar bears are either white or brown.the white 1's are present in the poles. At the poles, the value of g is about 9.8 because the shape of the Earth, makes the radius of Earth from the poles shorter than the radius of Earth from the equator.THus if g = 9.8,then the bear is white.
If the value of g is around 9.7, the bear is brown.
I know it's very cheeky, but i know there's a solution which doesn't require any of the data given (w,t, etc) but i can't find where it is! :$
